January Is National Stalking Prevention Month

January is Stalking Prevention Month

Stalking affects millions of people each year, yet is highly underreported. Stalking is directed at an individual or group of individuals over a specified time to cause emotional fear, harassment, physical or psychological damage. President Obama declared January as National Stalking Awareness Month.
Like many crimes, education, awareness, and prevention are crucial to the survival of an individual. It is imperative to report someone stalking you, even if you feel compelled to brush it off and think it is nothing. If something does happen, you want to make sure it is recorded on file; keeping a journal of events is helpful as well.
According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which released its first National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS), reported stalking is a serious issue. NISVS data shows that:
  • Nearly one in six women has experienced stalking so severe that she felt very fearful or believed that she or someone close to her would be harmed or killed.
  • One in 19 men has experienced the same level of stalking.
  • Women were particularly likely to be stalked by a current or former intimate partner.
Stalking behaviors can include seemingly innocuous acts, such as making unwanted phone calls; sending unsolicited or unwanted letters or emails; or leaving unwanted items, presents or flowers, but when taken together, and when feared by the victim, may constitute a criminal act. Other forms of stalking include following or spying on the victim; showing up without a legitimate reason at places where the victim is likely to be; waiting at places for the victim; and posting information or spreading rumors about the victim on the internet, in a public place, or by word of mouth.
Newer technologies, such as text messaging, emails, and electronic monitoring devices (including cameras and GPS), are also used by perpetrators to stalk victims. Stalking is also frequently a precursor to much more serious, and sometimes lethal, acts. In fact, 76 percent of female intimate partner murder victims had been stalked by their partners prior to their death.
The Stalking Resource Center provides training and technical l assistance to enhance responses to stalking and is committed to collecting the best knowledge about stalking, including researching policy and tracking program success.
According to Louisiana Stalking Laws:
Stalking Defined as
Willful, malicious, and repeated following or harassing with intent to place in fear of death or bodily injury.
Punishment/Classification
Maximum 1 year jail and $1000 fine. If had dangerous weapon: fine $1,000 and/or jail 1 year. If stalking and protective order for same victim, or criminal proceeding for stalking victim or injunction: jail 90 days minimum and 2 years maximum and/or fined maximum $5,000. If victim under 18, maximum 1 year and/or $2000 fine. Note: anyone over 13 who stalks a child 12 and under and is found to have placed child in reasonable fear of death or bodily injury of family member shall be punished by 1 year minimum, 3 years maximum in jail and/or $1,500 minimum, $5,000 maximum fine
Penalty for Repeat Offense
If 2nd within 7 years: jail minimum 180 days and maximum 3 years and/or fined maximum $5,000. If 3rd or subsequent within 7 years: jail minimum 2 years and maximum 5 years and/or fined maximum $5,000

                                        FACSA Foundation Virtual EXPO

                                  March 20 and 21, 2012

Child Sexual Assault does not discriminate for pain knows no color, race, religion, gender, or age. Connie Lee

Key Points:

1) National and global advertisements

2) 5000 attendees

3) Increasing Awareness of Child Abuse and Child Sexual Assault

4) Decrease the 24.3 Billion Dollar cost to states due to child sexual assault, while providing children of abuse and sexual assault with better opportunities and safer environments.

Hello  Apple,

While we will never be Steve Jobs, I am writing to you today to inform you we have sponsor booths available for the FACSA Foundation Virtual EXPO/Free for Sexual Assault Organizations/Advocates/Supporters, March 20 and 21, 2012. Apple is infamous for breaking the mold and leading a world revolution, just as we are with child sexual assault; which is now a multi-generational epidemic, costing states directly 24.3 billion dollars each year. We are changing that while providing better opportunities and safer environments for children of abuse and child sexual assault. We would like to invite you to be a sponsor for this one of a kind event that has never been done before.

My name is Connie Lee and I am the Founder/President of the FACSA Foundation (Family and Friends Fighting Against Child Sexual Assault), in Springhill, La. We are a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) status company. We are an all-volunteer staff. The FACSA Foundation provides support services for families of child sexual assault, such as attorney’s, counselors, support group, guidance, and what each family needs for their case. We also educate the community on prevention of child sexual assault, through our programs such as the Good Touch/Bad Touch Program from ChildHelp USA; Kid’s Safe ID Kit’s from the National Exploited Children’s Foundation; and the FACSA Defense Program, where we go to schools for free to teach teens about abusive dating relationships, warning signs, and 30 minutes of hands on self-defense. I have a Bachelors of Science in Psychology; I am a public speaker and an event planner.

On March 20 & 21, 2012, the FACSA Foundation will present a global event, (similar to a physical EXPO with sponsor booths, speakers, organizations, advocates, supporters, and attendees, but virtual), free for sexual assault organizations, hosted by the FACSA Foundation. Within two weeks of posting, our national project went global, with countries joining us from: Africa, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Russia, and the U.K. The purpose of this event is to unite sexual assault organizations, supporters, advocates, family, and friends, resources, knowledge, and creativity to better serve our communities, and families with children of sexual assault. Anyone from a mother in crisis to law enforcement, schools, daycares, businesses, hospitals, etc. will be able to utilize the free resources of programs, safety and exit plans, where to go, and organizational programs and resources available in their area, state, tri-state, nation, and across the globe, 24/7, 365 days a year. This event is the catalyst for changing the social stigma of child sexual assault; by uniting organizations in a personal easy to access format; by conducting research to implement in developing new state of the art programs that are easy, fun, age appropriate, learning tools; using the research to change public policies; and teaching advocacy and prevention across the nation with the “Holocaust of Innocence Tour,” where your promotional items, banners, and logos will be displayed through the conferences, nation and global advertisements, and the virtual EXPO.

For this one of a kind event, we anticipate 5000 attendees for the inaugural launch of the FACSA Foundation Virtual EXPO. Please join us on this incredible adventure, as we advocate together,  prevention and education of child sexual assault.

NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH (April)2012 Opening Ceremonies Sunday April 1st-Sacramento,CA.
THE CAUSE: National Child Abuse Prevention Month (NCAPM) is a time set aside to focus specifically on preventing child abuse/neglect within our communities. Specifically by fostering education and collaborations which facilitate the type of awareness required to prevent criminal conduct against the youngest and most vulnerable members of society.
Help Prevent Child Abuse

THE CONCERN: With crimes against children on the rise we have a moral obligation to focus upon this serious issue and take action which works against predators and all whom lack the ability or insight to properly protect children in their care.
THE CAMPAIGN: The Greater Sacramento region proudly hosts this 50 state kick off, featuring opening ceremonies Sunday April 1st collectively pulling people and resources together which will call significant attention to this important cause. Events that day include: Departure of Kross Kountry-4-Kids (Folsom Harley-Davidson 115 Woodmere Rd. Folsom,CA.) then a Leadership Luncheon, Family Safety Fair & Heroes With Heart Gala (Sunrise Event Center 11167 Trade Center Drive Rancho Cordova,CA. 95670).
The Camaraderie: By pulling together individuals, groups and businesses which have a specific interest in this cause while forming partnerships with the Justice Community, Law Enforcement,Education Liaisons and Social Services we are able to facilitate collaborations which produce positive accessible resources that work to fulfill our mission, and secure safer communities for children.
CROSS COUNTRY: Program partners from all 50 states participate in this project, working in harmony with foundational facilitators of Northern California, to generate a message and movement which is effective and brings forth positive sustained results. Incorporated into the United States outreach is a two week motorcycle journey traveling from Sacramento to Washington D.C. and back, serving as a formal and peaceful demonstration of help and hope for children nationwide!
